Lion Guardians

After spending time in Kenya, Carol Zink fell in love with the Maasai and the Lion Guardians. Carol and Merishi are writing a middle grade novel focusing on the tradition of Maasai lion hunts and animal conservation. She has earned an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults. She lives on an island near Seattle, WA with her husband, three kids, and adorable dog, Bisous.  When not writing, she is enjoying life in the Pacific Northwest. 

John Merishi, a Maasai, grew up in a village near Amboseli National Park. Educated in the local school system and later at university in Nairobi. After receiving his degree, he returned home to work on developing strong, sustainable communities. In 2015 Merishi began to apply his experience in conservation with the Lion Guardians. He now supervises dozens of Guardians (locals from the Maasai community) and provides them with the training and support they need to be successful in saving lions. Merishi also works closely with the local communities to raise awareness and to create a dialog about wildlife conservation to find solutions to live peacefully alongside wild lions.
